Guidance notes to help when configuring a DATASCAN system

Configuration

The minimum Datascan configuration can consist of a host computer connected to one measurement processor or one processor with one scanner. This can then be extended via the local expansion bus with the range of available scanners.

If required distribution and extra or channels can be gained via the RS485 network as in the following example:

About the distance

Connection to the host is via RS232 should be a maximum of 25ft, if greater use 7011 module.

Each module is connected on a local expansion bus via a 26 way ribbon cable, maximum distance is 10 metres.

About the network

Each RS485 network can support any mix of channels up to the maximum of 1000.

Up to 32 processors (nodes) can be connected on a single RS485 network.

RS485 cable should be Beldon 8957 up to 300 metres or 9207 up to 1200 metres, or equivalents.

About the processors

Each processor supports up to 256 channels of analog and/or digital input or output.

Each gateway or peripheral module counts as a processor.

Each processor requires a 24V DC power supply rated at 500ma.

Each order placed including a processor will receive one Datascan manual. Alternatively each processor can be supplied with a manual, please specify on the order.

About the scanners

7026 and 7027 isolated scanners can only be used with the 7010 processor and cannot be mixed with 7020 modules on the same 7010 processor.

A maximum of 10 x 7026 modules can be supported on a single 7010.

Each 4-20ma transducer requires a 62 ohm 0.1% resistor as a shunt.(Part no 050-063).

Each module has a data sheet available with detailed specifications.

About the software

DALITE for Windows software requires a Windows 95 capable PC i.e. 486/Pentium 16 Mb RAM, 2xRS232, VGA.

About the starter packs

The starter packs provide an off the shelf Data acquisition system including all hardware and software to start a small application. The 7719-ND is available as a separate item for users who wish to configure a starter pack using other modules and is ideal for mobile systems or demonstration purposes.
